Leftists are LYING about gun control by failing to mention that the vast majority of “gun deaths” in America are suicides

The far-Left in America — in academia, the entertainment industry, Democratic politicians, the sycophantic “mainstream media” — all lost their minds (again) following the horrific shootings in Las Vegas earlier this month.

Once again, they all claimed, America has devolved into a shooting gallery, fed by easy access to “assault weapons” and “machine guns” that are involved in what some claim was the equivalent of a Vegas-style “mass murder” every day.

“Nowhere but America do horrific large-scale mass shootings happen with this degree of regularity. Last night’s massacre may go down as the deadliest in modern U.S. history, but already this year there have been more mass shootings than days in the year,” said U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn.

In a word, that’s BS.

Yes, what happened in Vegas was horrific. But even far-Left Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein, long known as a gun ban advocate, has said there isn’t a single new law that Congress can pass that would have stopped Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock, 64. (Related: EXCLUSIVE: Forensic acoustic analysis confirms existence (and range) of second Las Vegas shooter.)

“Could there have been any law passed that would’ve stopped him?” CBS News host John Dickerson asked the senator.

“No, he passed background checks registering for handguns and other weapons on multiple occasions,” she said, which is the truth.

The fact is, the vast majority of gun-related deaths in America are suicides, not homicides — and most definitely not “mass murder” committed by “assault rifles.” In fact, homicides committed by rifles are the lowest, statistically, according to FBI figures. For 10 years — 1994-2004 — there was a ban on the sale of so-called “assault rifles,” but any honest broker will admit that, again based on statistics, the ban had zero effect on the homicide rate.

This isn’t hidden information. In fact, it’s been well-publicized, and these lying Democratic politicians are well-aware of it. Further, the fact that guns are most often used in suicides, not homicides has been true for decades. They just refuse to admit it because doing so doesn’t fit their fabricated narrative that ‘assault weapons like the ones used in the Vegas shootings are the real problem with guns in America.’

As the Pew Research Center noted in 2010:

Suicides by gun accounted for about six of every 10 firearm deaths in 2010 and just over half of all suicides, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Since the CDC began publishing data in 1981, gun suicides have outnumbered gun homicides. But as gun homicides have declined sharply in recent years, suicides have become a greater share of all firearm deaths: the 61% share in 2010 was the highest on record. That year there were 19,392 suicides by firearm compared to 11,078 homicides by gun (35% of all firearm deaths). The rest were accidents, police shootings and unknown causes.

None of this has changed. As Breitbart News reported in Jan. 2016, despite lies being told by then-President Obama and wannabe president Hillary Clinton, two-thirds of gun deaths were suicides.

For you Lefties, here’s a source you may trust more: The New York Times also admitted as much in a rare moment of honesty on the subject in October 2015, admitting that “Gun Deaths are Mostly Suicides.”

As for Paddock, let’s just suppose for a moment that every one of the guns he used were banned, and that only bolt-action rifles were legal to buy and own. Imagine how much more death and destruction he could have wrought on the crowd below him if he was taking his time and picking his targets with a high-powered rifle and expensive scope.

Or let’s suppose all guns were banned; what was to stop him from renting a large van and plowing through the crowd like an Islamic terrorist in, say, France or Britain?

The Left doesn’t want to have an “honest conversation about gun ownership in America.” The Left wants to browbeat us into surrendering the Second Amendment and our right to self-defense.
